Avianca

Avianca is a Colombian airline. It is the largest airline of Colombia and the sixth of South America.

Avianca was founded on December 5, 1919 in the city of Barranquilla as Sociedad Colombo Alemana de Transporte Aéreo (Scadta), and is, after KLM, the oldest surviving airline in the world. The company got its present name on June 14, 1940 when Scadta and the Servicio Aereo Colombiano (Saco) merged to Aerovias Nacionales de Colombia SA (Avianca). Since 2004 has become part of the Sinergy Group. A group of companies in the exploration of oil and gas in Latin America.

Avianca tries to keep its fleet as modern as possible. Currently the have 72 new aircraft on order. There are Airbus A319, A320 and A330 on order. But also the latest Boeing 787 is in order. Between 2008 and 2012 new aircraft will be deployed on various routes. The old planes are phased out.

At the moment Avianca puts from its hub in Bogotá, around 450 daily flights to 22 domestic and 23 international destinations. Avianca has two daughters: Avianca Brasil in Brazil, Avianca Ecuador in Ecuador.
