José María Córdova International Airport is the International Airport of Medellin. The airport was opened in 1985. The airport lies about 30 km outside the city. The airport is situated at an altitude of 2120 meters. The runway is 3.5 km long and 45 meters wide.
The airport is named after General José María Córdova out of Rionegro. The airport is 2 largest on the basis of infrastructure and 3 largest behind Cali and Bogota based on passengers.
The airport handles all domestic and international flights to Medellin off. The other airport in Medellin Olaya Herrera Airport deals only regional flights.
In 2006, the Airbus A380 was at the airport for the heat & height during the test program. To the landing of the A380 came approximately 5000 people.
There is a lot of cargo handled from the airport. Especially cut flowers are flown to America through this airport.
