Airport Matecana
Airport Pereira is located approximately 12 kilometers from the center of Pereira. The official name of the airport is "Aeropuerto Internacional Matecaña". It is located in the northwest of Colombia between Medellin and Cali.
The airport with IATA code PEI was built in 1944 with a runway of 1.8 kilometers long and an area of 40,000 m2 of land. The first plane landed at airport Pereira on July 24, 1947. Today, the runway is a bit more than 2 km long and 45 meters wide.
Today the airport has one passenger terminal of about 7642 m2. Pereira Airport has three waiting rooms, 2 for domestic flights and 1 for international flights. The national waiting rooms have a capacity of about 135 people a waiting room. The cargo area of the airport is 3600 m2.
Parking is possible at one of the 150 parking spaces at the airport. There is also room for approximately 70 taxis.
In recent years, the national passenger numbers remained stable at approximately 220,000 passengers per year. The international number in recent years has risen to nearly 70,000 passengers in 2009.
